WCC Week 13 - Neil Point

Team Sockeye was fortunate again to be working on Vashon Island! This time we are working with Cindy at Neil Point on the southern end of the island.

Details after the jump!

This was a project that Kokanee had worked on previously. They rolled out all of the black fabric and planted all of the potted plants. We finished up the project by getting all of the bare roots in when they arrived.

Before
After
On top of getting as much of the bare roots in, we also did some blackberry clearing and brought out the machetes for the first time. They definitely needed some sharpening. Overall it was a straight forward project. The only issue was the density of plants in the area. We packed it full.

We also made a great deal of progress for our MLK project. We were contacted by The Perkins School in Seattle to help their science teacher talk about their attempt to be Wildlife Habitat Certified. They have a small plot dedicated to native plants. We will be working at the salvage nursery to earn the plants. We will compile a half hour lesson and spend the other half planting the trees and maintaining the site. Finally we will be helping the Humpy crew at a food cannery!
